Lulu is always a different person in the eyes of the men and women who are captivated by her: Nelly for the medical officer, Mignon for Dr. Schön, Eva for the painter, Countess Adelaide for high society, Lulu for Schigolch, Alwa, Countess Geschwitz, and for the man who will ultimately murder her. Yet, through all the twists and turns of her fate, she remains the same: a young woman who wants to live and who doesn't need the madness she unleashes. In his anti-romantic twelve-tone music, Alban Berg captures what defines Lulu: simplicity, clarity, and beauty.
