Don Giovanni, liar, murderer and devourer of women, sees himself as above any moral code. Not that he’s cold and calculating; he means what he says – until he’s forgotten what he said. All that lying is a hard to sustain, yet he wouldn’t be Don Giovanni if he resolved to commit. Death is his constant companion. He knows full well what he’s doing – and knows there’s a price to pay.

But that just heightens his frenzy to get the most out of the time he has left. Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” presents the tale of an asocial individual who is at loggerheads with society and has been fascinating us for centuries.
