A gripping family saga, a coming-of-age story and an exploration of black holes in the universe are cleverly combined in Lucy Kirkwood's social panorama. At the centre are the two unequal sisters Alice and Jenny. The highly gifted Alice works at CERN in Geneva as a physicist, while her sister is employed in a call centre. Both are in a permanent clash with their mother Karen, who has dedicated her life to research. However, her brilliant work did not win her the Nobel Prize, but her husband. On the eve of a ground-breaking experiment at the particle accelerator, the three women meet with their contrasting positions. Career dreams, relationship problems, political convictions and sad incidents tragically and comically lead to the fundamental debate about what holds the world together at its core. A play as chaotic and complex as life itself. With this work by the award-winning English author Lucy Kirkwood, director Bérénice Hebenstreit makes her debut at the State Theatre.
