In her latest novel, Sasha Marianna Salzmann tells the migration story of four women from two generations, from the repressive measures in the Soviet Union, their life in Ukraine, to the present in German exile. The focus is on Lena and her friend Tatjana, who is the same age. They left Ukraine in the mid-90s, got stranded in Germany and started all over again. Her daughters, Edi and Nina, both raised in Germany, want nothing to do with their origins. Lena's fiftieth birthday brings the four women together again. They need to realise that they are all part of one story. In an arrangement of many voices with poignancy, poetic power, and great empathy, the dramatisation of the novel attempts to take a look at the tensions, the speechlessness and the indissoluble entanglement of the generations across times and spaces.
