Two couples from very contrasting worlds are on a quest for love. The Emperor had previously taken a princess from the domain of spirits as his wife and is now using hunting and other amusements to distract himself from his enforced celibacy. The dyer’s wife has the most good-natured husband imaginable – so friendly and understanding, in fact, that she loses her temper and her libido. Two couples who can’t have children because their respective relationships are plagued by uncertainty. This is a musical fairy tale, a psychological study situated somewhere between “The Magic Flute” and Sigmund Freud, a trip into the depths of love that leads to a world of questions.
