Brahms’s only violin concerto is less a work for a virtuoso and more a symphony in which the sound of the solo violin emerges in due course from the ensemble and does not supersede it until the 3rd movement. The concerto makes demands on the soloist that far outstrip the technical perfection, which is almost sidelined by the musical and conceptual challenges. Beethoven’s “Eroica” marked a turning point in the history of music, imposing a novel task on the music through its untamed emotionality, while adhering to the conventional symphonic form. Beethoven uses the themes of struggle and grieving to develop his vision of a better, more humane world.

PROGRAMM:
Johannes Brahms: Violinkonzert D-Dur op. 77
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphonie Nr. 3 Es-Dur op. 55 „Eroica“
