Choreographies by Marco Goecke (WOKE UP BLIND), Jacopo Godani (METAMORPHERS) and Goyo Montero (BLITIRÍ)

Music by Jeff Buckley; Béla Bartók; W.A. Mozart, PJ Harvey, Bobby McFerrin, Owen Belton (new composition)

Goyo Montero has managed once again to attract top-ranked international choreographers to Nuremberg.

Marco Goecke, multiple award-winning director of the Staatsballett Hannover, has now been nominated for the renowned Prix Benois de la Danse 2021. Following on from “Thin Skin”, Marco Goecke has now, for the second time, entrusted the Nuremberg Ballet with a piece designed for eventual inclusion in our repertoire. In “Woke up Blind”, receiving its German premiere in Nuremberg, seven dancers render states of heightened emotional stress, their routines set to the enigmatic vocals of Jeff Buckley.

We welcome Jacopo Godani for the first time. Godani is one of the key figures associated with William Forsythe, who has established himself as one of the most sought-after star choreographers on the international circuit. The director and choreographer of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company has created “Metamorphers” for Béla Bartók's String Quartet No. 4. His newly revised version of the work for the Nuremberg ensemble is remarkable for its constantly changing and flowing formations.

This multifaceted dance evening is rounded off by “Blitirí”, Goyo Montero’s latest choreography, which is both an homage to the pure joy of movement and a reflection on the joy and burden of a dancer’s life and his or her relationship to the audience. “Blitirí” is powerfully linked to the music and was created as a visual expression of a collage of works by Mozart, PJ Harvey, Bobby McFerrin and Owen Belton, Montero's long-time artistic collaborator.

Press reviews

In Nürnberg passt’s.“

Eva-Elisabeth Fischer, Sueddeutsche Zeitung

Dr. Frank Piontek, Der Opernfreund

Bayerische Staatszeitung

„Ein Triumph für diese janusköpfige Lustbarkeit.“

Uwe Mitsching, Bayerische Staatszeitung

Michele Olivieri, L'Ape musicale

Dance For You Magazine

„Das Zuschauen ist reine, helle Freude. 'Blitirí' entpuppt sich als tiefgründig-geniales Knallbonbon. (…) Ein großer Wurf. Paradigmatisch für die Saison 2020/21.“

Vesna Mlakar, Dance For You Magazine
