Goyo Montero
Ballettdirektor und Chefchoreograph
Goyo Montero wurde 1975 in Madrid geboren. Er absolvierte seine Ausbildung am Königlichen Konservatorium für Professionellen Tanz in Madrid und an der Schule des Kubanischen Nationalballetts. Unter anderem wurde er als Tänzer ausgezeichnet mit dem Prix Professionel beim Prix de Lausanne 1993 sowie der Goldmedaille und dem Großen Preis beim Internationalen Ballettwettbewerb in Luxemburg.
Kritiker des Dance Europe Magazine nominierten ihn als besten Tänzer in der Saison 2003/2004. Goyo Montero war Erster Solist an der Deutschen Oper Berlin und Solist an der Oper Leipzig, dem Staatstheater Wiesbaden und dem Königlichen Ballett Flandern. Er wurde als Erster Solist zur Zusammenarbeit mit dem Mexikanischen Nationalballett, dem Perth City Ballet und dem Ballet d’Europe eingeladen.
Als Choreograph kreierte er u.a. Werke für die Compagnie Maggio Danza, die Deutsche Oper Berlin, das Kubanische Nationalballett, die Oper Kiel, das Staatsballett von Ankara und Izmir, die Compagnie Modern Dance Turkey, die Compagnie Gregor Seyffert, das Ballett Carmen Roche und das Ballet de Teatres de la Generalitat Valenciana. Mit seinen Stücken wurde Goyo Montero zu verschiedenen internationalen Festivals eingeladen, u.a. in Havanna, Florenz, Granada, Zaragoza, Madrid und Tokio. Als Choreograph wurde er u.a. ausgezeichnet mit dem Preis „Villa de Madrid“ 2006, dem 1. Preis des Iberoamerikanischen Choreographie-Wettbewerbs 2006, dem Preis Villanueva 2006 (verliehen von der UNEAC Vereinigung kubanischer Autoren und Journalisten) und dem Preis „Teatro de Madrid“. Goyo Monteros „Dornröschen“ wurde vom Tanzmagazin Danza & Danza zur „besten italienischen Produktion des Jahres 2008“ gewählt.
Seit der Spielzeit 2008/2009 ist Goyo Montero Direktor und Chefchoreograph des Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett. Für den erfolgreichen Start erhielt der Ballettdirektor zu Beginn der zweiten Spielzeit den Kulturpreis der IH K der Mittelfränkischen Wirtschaft. 2010 wurde Goyo Monteros Arbeit mit dem Harlequin Award gewürdigt. Der Harlequin Award zeichnet herausragende Leistungen junger spanischer Choreographen aus. 2011 ehrte das spanische Ministerium für Kultur den Choreographen und Tänzer Goyo Montero mit dem "Premio Nacional de Danza", einer der wichtigsten Auszeichnungen, die das Land vergibt. 2012 war Goyo Montero Mitglied der Jury beim 40. Prix de Lausanne. Im April 2013 brachte Goyo Montero seine Choreographie „Romeo und Julia“ mit der Compañia Nacional de Danza am Teatro Real Madrid zur Aufführung.
Born in 1975 in Madrid, Spain. He completed his studies at the Royal Conservatory for Professional Dance in Madrid and the School of the National Ballet of Cuba. Among others he received the following awards as a dancer: Winner of the Prix Lausanne in 1993 and Gold Medal and Grand Prix at the International Ballet Competition of Luxembourg. Critics of Dance Europe Magazine nominated him Best Dancer of the season 2003-2004. Goyo Montero was Principal Dancer at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and soloist at the Oper Leipzig, Staatstheater Wiesbaden and the Royal Ballet of Flanders. He has been invited as guest soloist with the National Ballet of Mexico, the Perth City Ballet and the Ballet d’Èurope.
As a choreographer he created pieces for the Company Maggio Danza, Deutsche Oper Berlin, National Ballet of Cuba, Opera of Kiel, Ankara and Izmir State Ballet, Modern Dance Turkey, the Company Gregor Seyffert, Ballet Carmen Roche and the Ballet de Teatres de la Generalitat Valenciana, among others.
With his choreographies Goyo Montero took part in different festivals, amongst others in Havanna, Florence, Granada, Zaragoza, Madrid and Tokyo. As a choreographer he has received, among others, the “Villa de Madrid” award in 2006, the 1st award of the Iberoamerican competition of Choreography 2006, the Villanueva award by the UNEAC (Union of Writers, Critics and Artits of Cuba) in 2006 and the “Teatro de Madrid” award. Goyo Montero’s “Sleeping Beauty” has been awarded “best Italian production of the year 2008” by the dance magazine Danza&Danza.
With season 2008/2009 Goyo Montero is ballet director and principal choreographer of the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet. For the successful start with his new company Goyo Montero has been awarded with the cultural prize of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Middle Franconia at the beginning of the second season.
In 2010 Goyo Montero received the Harlequin Award for his work. The Harlequin Award decorates young Spanish choreographers for their outstanding achievements. In 2011 Goyo Montero receives the Premio Nacional de Danza. It is the National Spanish Prize for Dance, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. In 2012 Goyo Montero has been member of the jury at the 40th Prix de Lausanne. In April 2013 Goyo Montero set his choreography "Romeo and Juliet" for Compañia Nacional de Danza at Teatro Real in Madrid.
